3 North Carolina Holiday Attractions You’ll Love

north carolina holiday attractions

North Carolina holiday attractions are found throughout The Tar Heel State. This season, we focus on three attractions, one from each of our regions.

Mountains: Christmas at Biltmore in Asheville (Nov. 3, 2018 to Jan. 6, 2019)

The largest home in America, The Biltmore, has one of the largest Christmas displays to match, including over 100 decorated trees; hundreds of wreaths, bows, and poinsettias; thousands of lights; and more than 25,000 ornaments! In their seven-story tall Banquet Hall, books and toys hang on a 35-foot Frasier fir. With spectacular views both inside and outside, we highly recommend touring the Biltmore Estate for Christmas.

Piedmont: Speedway Christmas at Charlotte Motor Speedway (Nov. 18, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2019)

One of the largest holiday light shows in the country, featuring three million lights over nearly four miles! Tune into 101.3 FM to enjoy Christmas music as your eyes see the incredible illuminated lights. This year there will be a brand-new fifty-foot Ferris Wheel. Thursday through Sunday nights you can even watch holiday movies on their giant Speedway screen. Come see the most awe-inspiring Christmas-themed drive-in theatre around! (Note: Mobile tickets will NOT be accepted. You MUST print your ticket and present it at the gate to enter.)

Coast: Winterlights at Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo (Nov. 24, 2018 to Jan. 19, 2019 from 6 to 9 pm on select days)

See enchanting creatures (like butterflies, deer, and peacocks) brightly shine at night. Created with flowers, seeds, and other natural elements, the light displays join permanent art elements like the world’s largest bronze statue of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Festive trees grace the Great House and Reception Hall and a crackling open-air fire warms the Great Lawn. This event is dependent upon weather. Call 252-473-3234. ($11 for adults, $9 for youth ages 6 to 17, $6 for children age 5 and under) Extended passes available.
