Celebrate the Season in Central North Carolina

Christmas shopping, intoxicating aromas and sounds of the season fill every corner of central North Carolina during the holidays. What a diverse area to explore – Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and so many charming smaller communities make NC’s Piedmont area a wonderful place to visit during the holidays.

NC Bed and Breakfast Inns Association member inns are ideal as “home base” for your explorations. Some of our member innkeepers really deck their halls. Others have a more subdued approach. But whatever their style, innkeepers know their communities as few others do and they want to share the best of their area with guests.

Christmas Town USA is NOT at the North Pole!

It’s true — you’ll find the real  Christmas Town USA just west of Charlotte, in the small town of McAdenville.

If you are staying at a nearby NC Bed and Breakfast member inn, you will definitely want to make the trip to this unique community that comes to “light” at the holiday season.

This year, there’s a free mobile app you should download (for Apple and Android devices) that makes it super easy to find fun things to do in Christmas Town USA, including finding dozens of Christmas light displays throughout town and a point-by-point description of the history and heritage of key displays along the route. Visit the McAdenville Christmas Town USA website for all the links.

Scrumptious Recipe for Holiday Entertaining

Monica Edwards, innkeeper at Morehead Manor Bed & Breakfast in Durham, says her guests always ask for her nearly-famous “Coco-Chocolate Pecan Poppers” recipe. It’s perfect for holiday entertaining. Give it a try and let us know how quickly they disappear!

Holiday Traditions From Historic Pittsboro

Innkeepers are well-known for having the best cooking tips and Karen Pullen, innkeeper at Rosemary House B&B in Pittsboro, NC, is no exception.

Here’s one of her favorite holiday cooking tips, but it’s good for special meals all year round. When making mashed potatoes, use a 2:1 mix of white and sweet. The result is a bowl of beautiful pale orange whipped goodness, with more flavor and fiber than plain white potatoes. Yum!

And here’s an annual holiday activity Karen does with her grandchildren that you might want to try at your house this year. Before the Christmas dinner, they gather to make place cards as a craft project. Each year, they create something different and it’s become a wonderful holiday tradition everyone looks forward to.

Last Minute Gift Idea!

A perfect last minute present guaranteed to “WOW” is a gift certificate to any NC Bed and Breakfast Association member inn. You can order a NC lodging gift certificate in $50 increments. They never expire and between now and December 31, 2015, save 10% when you use code “GC2015” at checkout.

This holiday season, we hope you’ll celebrate some of the festivities at a North Carolina Bed and Breakfast member inn. To find one in the area you’ll be visiting, use our searchable directory.

Happy Holidays!
